Experience "Perspective" my BFA Exhibition

Artist Statement:

“Perspective”

With my typography pieces I challenge the viewers perspective by forcing them to interact with each piece in order to view the image as a whole. I use this control of perspective to manipulate the viewer into moving and seeing things how I want them to. This manipulation of perspective that I employ represents the same sort of tactic used by our government and media outlets to sway our views on certain political and global events. The government controls what we see and how we see it, yet we never really stop to question what part of it is actual facts, or what is just there to manipulate or misdirect.

Individually each piece reflects my perspective on certain institutions, ideas, and issues we all come in contact with throughout our lives. This process of investigating my own views led me to discover just how important having perspective is. The idea is to always stay positive.

The anamorphic pieces were inspired by Yaacov Agam who is most known for his contributions to optical and kinetic art. With this exhibition I wanted to try and create challenging images that in some way make the viewer work to find the message or theme of each piece. As the viewer investigates the work they are forced to look at it from different angels, which represents the different perspectives that we all look at life from. With every major thing that occurs in the world today, we question it, we look at it from all sides and try to understand, and relate to it. We eventually discover our views or beliefs on the subject and become less open to others. I encourage everyone to find your perspective in each piece, and in turn, question his or her own views.
